Trans question

After messing with my 94 max IV it's almost time to start putting it back together. This is my first one and first time ever working on one I am unsure about the two tall aluminum pieces that are attached to the sticks on the trans. When I pull the left one back it feels like its just right. But when pulling on the right side it is a little stiffer then the left and it does not seen to pull the little cylinder out like the left side does and the nut that is on it is kinda loose. I will attach a few pics forgive me if I'm not really explaining it correct. Any insight would help thanks.
