Make sure the diamond shifters on the T20 are actually being moved when you are shifting from forward to reverse. Trace the shift linkage from the shifter back to the T20. As a general note, when in forward, you have to push forward on the sticks while applying throttle to move forward. When you pull back on the sticks, it should brake that side of the transmission. When in reverse, you pull back on the sticks while applying throttle to go backwards and push forward to brake that side of the transmission.

I know you said your belt isn't slipping but it sounds like that's what is happening. Make sure the belt is the correct width and adjust the tension by sliding the motor back. When fully engaged, the belt will move up and down the clutches while you are moving forward/reverse if you are in gear. If you rev up the motor with the transmission in neutral, the belts should also move up and down the clutches.

You could have snapped an input shaft too. I did that once, but in all fairness I was abusing the machine at the time....just like a rental
Your first check should be the diamond shifters. Pull them and make sure the little pin is still on the bottom and not snapped off. Then put a screw driver in the hole and pry the collar either way to make sure the trans is actually in gear. If it still won't go the t-20 is probably bad.

A couple of good references for you:
First look in the how-to section here: How to rebuild a T20 There are pictures and descriptions probably on page 2 or 3.
Second, search the transmission forum for "diamond shifter" and you will find a lot of threads on the topic with photos including threads that discuss the problems with the pin that can shear off and how to replace it.
