  • Not turning right

My Max IV is not turning right. I lifted it so all wheels are off the ground and shift into forward. The wheels will go on the left but not the right. I pulled the shifting plunger and it has some flat spots. Will this stop me from turning? Thanks

If the shift pins are worn and have flat spots, that can stop it from shifting properly. With the plunger removed, take a screwdriver and manually shift the shift collar in the transmission. If you look in the hole that the plunger came out of, you can see where the pin should sit in the shift collar. Put your screwdriver in that groove and shift the transmission. If it shifts fine with your screwdriver, you will know that the pin is your problem.

      .....

with the machine off, and the diamond shifter removed, use a large screwdriver to shift the trans (stick it down the bore where the diamond shifter was and move the shift collar either in or out) fire it up and check operation.... shut off the engine, shift the other way and repeat. you won't lose any fluid out the shift bore doing this test. if the machine works normally then the flat spots in the shift pin are your issue. Let us know what you find.

I replaced the shift pin and now have movement in Reverse but not forward on the left side do you think I need to adjust the steering lever.

When you replaced the plunger, were you careful to get the shift pin in the groove of the shift collar? If not, that can do what you described. Pull the plunger back out. Put it in neutral and be sure to get the pin in the groove. You may want to shift it with the screwdriver again just to test it out.

It is not shifting forward on the left side! I can do the right side by hand. Now what? I have the engine out so I can get at the motor. Do I need to pull the T-20

When you say by hand, are you shifting the diamonds or did you pull the diamonds out and use a screw driver like race suggested?

when I shift the diamond I cannot get it to go in the forward position on the left side. I tried shifting up with my hands I can shift key right side but not the left goes into reverse fine meaning pulling it backwards

Have you tried spinning the transmission a bit by hand, or by rocking the machine before shifting that side? It can be tough to get it lined up to go into gear with out a little jostling some times.
It can be baffling to some folks that are unfamiliar with it. The teeth on the shift collar and the drums/planetary plate are tapered to help out a bit, but it only goes so far.

Did you try using the screwdriver to move the shift collar with the diamond shifters out of the transmission?
