  • Transmission availability?

I've been eyeing a project 6x6 without a transmission. How hard is it to come by one of those t-20 skid steer transmissions? And what's the goin' rate?
Also are there any readily available alternatives? All of the skid steers I've ever messed with have been hydrostatic...

Surely thebuggyman, amphibiousdrew or jpswift have one for sale, prices may differ from seller. RI has new ones but costly.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

RI is Recreatives Industries maker of the Max 6x6 AATV's. Just type Max ATV in google to find the RI website.

Last rumor I heard was new ones cost $12-1300 from Recreatives

R.R. charged closer to $1500 for a rebuilt to another forum member (before I could stop him). He was promised up to $500 back for the core, but no guidelines on what made a $500 core and what made a $1 core. With shipping a 70 # t-20 (80 # box) being so expensive, he just kept his core. I think he was afraid of getting less for it than the shipping cost.

Rebuilts from a forum member should cost approx half of that.

Good used (tested/ opened and inspected) units have been selling for in the $4-500 range.

Unknown condition units are more like $200, but are probably not the best choice. The price of parts can get expensive really quickly. A couple drops of water sitting in the case can really do a lot of costly damage.

Project machines are very often NOT the good deal they seem to be. It is usually cheaper to buy a good used machine with no problems. What is the machine you are looking at? We will tell you if it is a good deal or not.

It's been on the local craigslist for a little while. Sounds like a transmission will cost about what I was hoping to have invested in the whole project though.

I would stay away from that. It doesn't look like a max to me, and it looks a like the top plastic is rotten and cracking....bad.

That is a Sierra Trail Boss. I don't see any possible way of making that one worth the money to fix it up. A complete Boss goes for $800 - $1200. If you are looking to keep your cost down to get into the sport, a well cared for Max II from the late 90's can often be found for about $2000. They are reliable when fixed right and will have some value still there when you go to sell it.

That's not a Max it's a Sierra Trailboss ,rare colors unless it's painted, and that thing has 2 transmissions. Unless he's got one someone converted like mine.

member Hans has 2 machines ready to ride for sale that are priced right, they are however in So. Carolina.
