  • Max IV T20 out put shaft sprockets?

I broke the right side output shaft sprocket on my Max do they make some kind of upgraded aftermarket sprockets do you guys suggest regearing while I am having to replace it and how the heck do you get them off to replace I guess you have to pull the clutch off the tranny to replace the left side and is it possible to replace the right side without pulling the motor and trans I just had them out two weeks ago working on the diamond shifters I am learning a lot about these things faster than I wanted to LOL

Unfortunately you will have to pull the transmission all the way apart to remove the output shafts. The good news is that they are fairly simple to work on and there is a good how-to article in the how-to section and several videos on the site that show you what to do.

How did the sprocket break? Did it shear the teeth or did several teeth break off together?

I prefer to disassemble t-20 s to do the output sprockets but have done many in a press fully assembled. To remove I cut a large piece off each side with a cutoff wheel, then cut to the shaft with a small wheel in a dremel. They crack when they are cut near the shaft. I put a 1/16 inch thick snapring against the shoulder to press the sprocket against. If you tear it apart the sprockets should be spaced off the bearing not pressed to the shoulder. Pressing to the shoulders makes the transmission 1/8 inch overall narrow requiring realignment of the chains& sprockets.
With sprockets heated to about 350 degrees they take about 2 tons to install. RI was out of stock two weeks ago but they were comming in. If trany hasent been apart reciently I would suggest a tear down.

I sent a PM to 79ford already, but since Recreatives is out of stock on the sprockets, I'll post it here. I have 2 of these, new from Recreatives if someone is in need of them before the new supply shows up.
