  • Primary clutch removal

I know it wasn't going to be easy removing a broken part that has boon on the engine for some 20+ years, but am i missing something? I am trying in vain to remove whats left of the primary clutch, i undid the center bolt and thought the clutch should slide off with the aid of a persuading stick, but still no go, do i hit harder or go with my prefered method of cutting through each side and opening it up as I go?

I thought I was going that way. While I have your attention, is a comet clutch worth having there is a new looking one on the shelf that would be mine for a very little money.
off to fire up the grinder.

Comet makes good quality clutches and they're worth haviing any time, but the one you see may not be set up for or even fit the engine/application you want to use it for.

          clutch removal

I had the same problem went down to the local after market snowmobile/motorcycle shop and they showed me the misrofish on it there were three types of primary clutch if there are 3 small threaded hole around the crank shaft you pull it by putting long bolts thru a home made plate then into the threaded holes [I think they are #6 metric] and pull it the same way you pull a bearing if not go down to a local shop and ask to see the micro fish on the primary comet clutch hope this helps tlp

By now you probably have the clutch off but I hope you used a clutch puller. (a bolt that pulls the clutch off by threading into the clutch and pushes on the crank shaft. Duster makes 2 different ones, I think.)

Nope, I cut it off, surprised to see only about 2 inch of shaft holding the whole assembly together. I had both pullers and neither fitted, the only bolt I did find that matched the threads stripped them from the clutch so I had to take more extreme measures.
