    Hello Jack
I use a long piece of 1/2" diameter threaded rod, about 30" long, with 2 nuts and 2 large flat washers. I clamp one end of the threaded rod in a vice, then spin one of the nuts down about 10 inches, set a washer over the rod, then set the clutch over the rod, against the washer. Then I set a 'U' shaped spacer over the rod (a small piece of channel iron with a 1/2" hole in it would work), to straddle the snap ring. Then the washer and 2nd nut. Ensure you leave enough room to back off the 2nd nut (to relieve the spring pressure) once the snap ring is removed.

Thank you, the hardware store here only has 5/8 and 3/4 diameter. I guess any of those would also do the job.
