input shaft on a T-20 goes in and out?

the input shaft on my t-20 moves in and out. It causes my driven clutch to hit the chain???

Is this something i can fix?
I was planning on tearing the tranny apart to check bands and change out all the seals??

That shaft should move about 1/8" and that is all.
What holds the shaft in place is 2 little "C" clips on the outside of the sun gears. The sun gears are held apart by the center plate.
I'm guessing that you have either lost a c-clip or your center plate is worn.
