So, I've searched around and read some of the clutch offset/alignment threads. And the only thing I've found is the picture that says 3/16 to 5/16 offset. Does anyone know what the offset should be for the 780 series clutches. I'm thinking about going 1/4" right in the middle.

hi
Clutch Alignment is a very ""loaded question ""
1st ask The 700 hundred series of clutches comprises ...drive 780 ... 770/780/790 driven
Due to the different different driven /secondary sizes
The clutch total diameter is biggest on the 770 and smallest on the 790
The cvt belt operates in different diameters for each clutch diameter
The different diameter causes different offset/sideways travel of the belt
Therefore the offset should be different for drivens to drives
2nd
Offset is dependant on wear u want the belt to be the straightest at whatever rpm
A straight belt is the most efficient power transmission
Typically also varies 2 or 4 stroke [2 stroke almost double the rpm of a 4 stroke ]
Gearing selection can influence this
A belt that is not in some form of alignment at the most commonly used rpm for your machine will wear faster
780 drive 770 driven I setup to the same as a max 780drive 780 driven which is using the inside edge[side closest to engine ] of the engine clutch inline with the corresponding driven with a piece of string .. Works far better than having a larger offset
