  • The infamous "RED SPRING" for secondary clutch?

    Hello,

    I've got a 1997 Bigfoot, I would like to slow the upshift on the secondary clutch and already have the stock "blue" spring at maximum adjustment, it's fair bit better but I would like to slow the upshift even more.

    Does anyone know about a "Red Spring" for the Argo secondary? I've seen some talk about a stronger "Red spring" but I'm not entirely sure if it's for an Argo Bigfoot clutch or another clutch and/or manufacture.

    Can anyone give me some information on where to get this "red spring",or if it even exists for the Argo Bigfoot secondary?, of course a local ARGO dealer doesn't know anything about it.......

    Thank-you to everyone for there replies and suggestions!

    I suggest you talk to Tim or Mike at Adair Argo. They know the technique to slow the clutch engagement and raise rpms. It revolves around the weights in the clutches and I don't know enough about the set up to talk intelligibly.

      The red spring is for the Comet clutches. Stock 2 stroke was a yellow and was used on some early 4 strokes also. The green spring is stiffer and was used on most 4 stroke machines.
      So to sum up:
      Yellow= weak
      Green= medium
      Red=stiffest

        Just to clarify, the red spring is for Comet and Salisbury clutches and does not work with the IBC, Powerbloc clutches. You could try Roy at Quality Drives with your questions.

              Not much you can do but move the spring to position one, if you have an H or M trans putting a set of G gears in it will help significantly. Early Bigfoots and V2's all Came with the H trans which runs quick but lacks grunt.
