  • creaking noise on t-20

Another noob question when stoped or at a low speed mostly from a stop is it normal to hear a creaking noise when turning? if u pull back and push on lats hard I wont hear it. I just changed fluid and its still there I used dex merc 2 with 4 oz of anti slip..

That sounds like you are talking about what is commonly referred to as band chatter. It happens as the brake bands that wrap around the brake drums in the T20 begin to engage. Before they stop the drum all the way, they slip a little and chatter. It shouldn't be as noticeable with the anti-slip additive.

What did the old fluid look like? Any sign of water will cause a milky look in ATF. If water is suspected tear it down. You just can't get it all out of the output bearing area and the bearings will eventually rust. To test for band noise I stop the vehicle on a short steep downhill and hold it with the sticks. Shut the engine off then allow it to creep then stop again. If the transmission groans or squeaks that is band chatter. Replacing the fluid again with type F and as much as 8oz. Of posi additive may cure it. About 1/2 the time I have to tear down and deglaze the drums and bands to get really quiet operation.

NAPA stalub # is SL2411 for 4oz. GM # is1052358 but only available at GM dealers and is close to $15 a tube. I can't tell the difference from GM and aftermarket products.
