Hi. I have a question regarding holding a lateral in a slight turn for long lengths if time, say thirty minutes, due to terrain (in my case the beach) vs. brake band wear. Does holding the lateral continously for say thirty minutes promote premature band wear? I was very tempted to do this in our last ride but chose to jerk the lateral as needed every five seconds for about thirty minutes and my arm got very sore. Any advice? Thanks.

To me, holding the lateral for any length of time, even thirty minutes, shouldn't be a problem. If you are having to hold one side to keep straight, you are most likely keeping that side in neutral to where the bands are not engaged. Any harder and you have engaged the brakes on that side. Any looser and you have engaged the brakes on the opposite drum and are back in forward/drive again.
You may want to check the tire circumference on both sides and see why it is drifting to one side to start with.

Thank you Mike. Actually the Max IV tracks straight. Its the beach we ride on that is slanted and curved, which makes the vehical drive "crooked". It will drive straight, but straight into the ocean if I don't make a turn correction. Sorry to mislead you.
I was inquiring if holding a constant light turn would prematurely wear out the brake bands. I tend to think it would, but I don't know the durability of the T-20.

Next time you go to church have a word with him
Apologies to any Christians / Church goer's, although I'm a Christian we don't take it quite so seriously over here, in fact, quite light heartedly at times.

Rusty,
look at the bright side...when you return home, you will be strengthening the other arm. It sounds like a wonderful smooth ride to me. I have been doing much of my riding on 4-wheeler trails this summer. They have all the whoop-de-dos that bounce me all over the front seat if I don't really watch it and keep my speed down. Makes me want to order up one of those springer kits....

The more I drive this machine the stronger I get. We already put about fifty hours of use in a month. Left arm gets a work out going out, right arm on the way back.
We also ride on quad trails through mud, swamps, tundra etc. They struggle through the rough stuff whereas we ride easily. We are very impressed with the Max.
We did get stuck once, a few days ago though. Any and all manner of atvs would too. The mud is that thick, gooey, tundra muck that sucks your laced-up boots off. I believe its the same muck that mammoths got stuck in twenty thousand years ago. We find their bones, tusks and teeth in them.Last edited by Rusty-Gunn; 07-08-2014, 03:52 AM.Stand for the Flag.
