  • Comet Duster 94C

I replaced a Comet/Salisbury 780 with a Comet Duster 94C. The 780 would sound like a machine gun being fired under load. I was sent the 94C as a replacement from the AATV manufacturer. This is on an AVx4. It is a 2008 year with about 30 minutes on it.

The 94C will not close enough to move the belt to the outer edge of the sheaves, even at maximum engine rpm. The clutch has the pink spring and six of the black pucks with the steel tube inserts.

If anyone has any experience tuning the Comet 94C I would like to hear your suggestions.

If I remember correctly, what you have already is the best set for 4 stroke clutch engagement on the drive clutch. The only thing I can suggest is to add the other three pucks of the same weight or to lighten the driven clutch spring. What spring are you using in the driven clutch?
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

        Jerry,
I run the 90c drive and driven units on my hustler, but I am using a 9 puck set up 7/8 (6) and 1 (3) with the black spring which is stiffer that the pink. It engages at 2400 rpm's. Don at Hoffco / Comet help me pick the puck and spring set up, he is a great resource and an all around cool dude. Sounds like the drive unit will not overcome the green spring (fairly stiff) of your salisbury driven unit.
        Hope this helps!

I'll give them a call. I don't have any spare pucks or springs.
