    can anyone tell me what the material between the clutch plates is on a early 70's sidewinder. looks like leather

    It's a break pad type material. I can't remember what years, but the clutch discs in an old vw bug can be used. Just cut it in half and jbweld it to the bare plate after you get the old friction material off.
    l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

      hi,
      All brake pad and dry clutch is friction material.
      Different materials have different co-efficient of friction numbers
      Clutches work by transmitting torque via friction generated
      1 Clutch diameter
      2 pressure applied to clutch plate via pressure plate etc
      3 material co-efficient of friction
      A good clutch/brake specialist will be able to supply ,machine material and then bond/rivet to your original clutch
