    when I run themotor with the cluch on ..no belt and it sticks in the closed posision after shuting down the motor or must it have a belt to work properly be for i tear it apart this is all new to me just fixin 1 peace at a time...............ART

    The primary clutch remains open at shut off. It closes with throttle use.
    Stand for the Flag. Kneel for the Cross.

      Some primaries will stay open if you run them without a belt. Most of the paperwork that comes with new clutches tells you not to run them without one, but so far I've never seen anything too bad happen. I would think that it may not be safe to run the clutch like that. If it's a Salsbury, you can pop it back into place, but MAKE SURE YOUR FINGERS ARE OUT OF THE WAY! It really, really hurts if you do it wrong.

        Don is right most can be popped back safely. I wrap the belt around and just work it into pulley till it snaps back. If that doesn't work just reach between pulley faces with a big flat screwdriver and pry apart. Try not to scratch the surfaces. Keep fingers clear!
