when I run themotor with the cluch on ..no belt and it sticks in the closed posision after shuting down the motor or must it have a belt to work properly be for i tear it apart this is all new to me just fixin 1 peace at a time...............ART

Some primaries will stay open if you run them without a belt. Most of the paperwork that comes with new clutches tells you not to run them without one, but so far I've never seen anything too bad happen. I would think that it may not be safe to run the clutch like that. If it's a Salsbury, you can pop it back into place, but MAKE SURE YOUR FINGERS ARE OUT OF THE WAY! It really, really hurts if you do it wrong.Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

Don is right most can be popped back safely. I wrap the belt around and just work it into pulley till it snaps back. If that doesn't work just reach between pulley faces with a big flat screwdriver and pry apart. Try not to scratch the surfaces. Keep fingers clear!
