hey friends, was wondering if there is any way of knowing the conditions of the bands without opening the trans and inspecting ? my max is a 2001. i replaced a broken band a few years ago, others are original. still steers and stops fine. probably average hours on it for it's age and no extreme abuse. am i pushing it ? really don't want a brakedown while i'm at busco. thanks alot ! johnboy va.

I find if there is 1/4" to 3/8" of plunger showing outside the front of the case when that band is pulled, they are getting down to about .015". That's where I replace if lining is less than .015 on any place. If fluid has been changed and you don't see a lot of plunger I would run it.
