  • Need Advice please ( Two T-20 Transmissions... ) Max II

    Hi guys,
I am new to working on T-20s ... In fact...I have never ever worked on one. I sure do Need some advice please. I live in the Huntsville, Alabama area and I am real intimidated by the thought of working on a T-20 transmission. I am not sure I would know what to look for once I got it apart. My phone number is 256-508-0632 my name is John. I have a Max II with just 150 hours on it and it has a T-20 transmission problem. Only one side has power & the other side just does nothing. Now that I am having this problem ... I noticed the control sticks are not resting evenly next to each other any more... The sticks used to be side-by-side but, now one rests far forward more forward than the other control stick now. The linkage seems to be ok between the T-20 and the sticks so the problems seems to be inside the T-20. So, I Bought a T-20 out of a local Junk yard on an "as is" basis. I thought the junk yard T-20 find was a real lucky find at the time but as it turn out... the Junk yard T-20 doesn't work either. Ideas? advice? words of encouragement? I need what ever help / advice I can get. Lets work something out.

The links posted above are very helpful. Read through each page of those articles and it will guide you all the way. The T20 is really an easy transmission to work on so don't be intimidated to pull it apart. Just from your description, it sounds like you may have broken a band in the transmission since the sticks seem different. If you had simply lost forward without noticing the sticks being different, I would have told you to check the shift pin on the diamond shifter but I doubt that is the problem in this case. Anyway, pull the transmission out and replace and inspect it. If the band is broken, you can post a wanted ad here on the forums and get a used one. Then, since you have the transmission apart, I would send that band along with your other three to get them relined. Also, get a seal kit from the manufacturer to replace all of the orings, seals, etc. while you are in there.

      Good luck.
