  • Comet or CV clutch

    Hate to ask, but i don't know...I have a '99 Max IV, 18hp BS,Vanguard. Looking to replace belt, not sure what type of clutch is on machine...thanks

    CV is what it has. Comet is a manufacture of this style clutch.

      I'm guessing he meant to say "CV-Tech" not "CV" in which case, I'd need to see a picture to determine the manufacturer.

          Stock 99 max would be comet. To identify CVTec clutches the driven has aluminum sheaves and the comet driven is steel with aluminum hub. I have run the CVTec belt on a set of comet clutches and find it has great low end. Belt is 1/32 wider and about 3/8" longer and rides very high on driven. Want to order more and try them out.

            Glad I found this site...you guys/gals are good. I just hate to be the FNG with all the questions. I had a Max years ago, all i ever did was turn the key and beat it; swimming, airborne and up a flight of stairs...this one is different, its in good shape and i wanna make it better...anyway, thanks for the response and info

                photo.jpg...this is the clutch in my max iv. cant seem to find a ser num anywhere on it...can someone identify? the belt thats on it now is 19T4300, NAPA, im told this is the wrong size for this clutch...any ideas?

                    Yup, way too loose.
                    Your clutches are comet.
                    Call Recreatives/Mudd-Ox for the right belt
