Howdy all.Scott here from Utah.I got this 1981 to 1986 Argo 8X8 I/C or from my research i have done i think thats what i got.It has a Koehler 17 QS for power plant and motor seems to run good.I will have to play the jeting game with the elevations in the mountains here. The problem im haveing is with the trans. It is a two speed i guess.Has a high, low forward and reverse.I have gone threw all the axle pins, chains, and chain gears. Some times it has power to the right side and some times it dont, all so theres a poping sound when i brake to turn. This is my first experience with these awsome machines but have never worked on one.I cant find description on tranny and was wondering if some folks here mite lead me to some ideals what the problem mite be Thanks ya all DSCN4935.jpgDSCN5032.jpg

Welcome to the world of amphibs. Sounds like your main chains from trany to jackshaft may be to loose. they adjust by moving the whole powerpack. You have to loosen the big cross bolts and adjust with the smaller bolts at rear of mount plate. Newer ones move up and down, older ones front to back, not sure about yours. The Argo transmission is a full differential unit . This means that only one side has to drive. If you have no traction on one side it will spin. You actually have to apply the steering brake on the spinning side to force power to the other side. Hope some of this makes sense.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense now.The main drive chains do look kind of loose and never thought about power brakeing the spining side.Thank you
