  • Raining or Pooring

It was raining when I got out of bed this morning so I decided to pull engine and transmission out today because my new clutchs are being delivered on Tuesday, so I pull tranny out and notice that the output shaft on the side that the clutch does not go on is moving in and out when I rotate diamond shifter, it moves about 3/8s to 1/2 inch. Would I be correct in assuming the snap ring has broke? Everything was working good. It feels as though the shift collar is the only thing holding it in. Guess I will tear it down and check. Maybe all I'll need is a snap ring and gaskets.

The input shaft will have some in and out play but it should be minimal, 1/2" is too much. It could be caused by wear on the center plate from a rotating washer over the years or you could be missing a c-clip for the sun gears. I would tear it apart while you have it out. It doesn't take much to split the case. Good luck.
