  • T-20 plunger sleeve replace - repair

    image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Picked up a T-20 with a rusted stuck plunger. Let soak for a week in chemical with no luck. Tried a hammer and got a bonus with the plunger out came a sleeve too. Tried to get the part from Recreative industries and was told by the owner. The tranny with the sleeves were a manufacture defect. No parts available so I made my own. For $10 in aluminum tubing 2part fiberglass epoxy resin I had laying around and about 3hrs labor of love. My advice, Bevel the edge to avoid damaging the o-rings when re-installing the plunger, make sure you measure and re- measure since I don't believe all the wholes are the same size, I only had to do one hole this time around.

Great thread and extremely helpful information! This will save a lot of headaches for the folks with this style of T-20.

I wonder when they used these in the T-20. I know my Hustler 980 BIGFOOT had a T-20 with them, and it's an early 1980's model.

I think its only the Skid Steers not the Borg Warner model. Wonder if there could be an alternative to the plungers used now with a plunger that is bigger in diameter so the sleeves can be removed...Would need a plunger approx. 1.00 in Diameter with oversized o-rings.

My trans has a serial number that was made around 89. It has the sleeves. About 4 years ago I bought new sleeves from Recreatives and epoxied them in place.

Do you know the size or part number? Did they hold Up?

Receipt was hand written with no part number for the sleeves. Have been holding up just fine. My case was leaking fluid and I was having a tough time figuring out where. It ended up being between the sleeves and case. They were rough enough that I decided to replace.
