  • T20 Bands & Parts

I'm ordering a t20 trans seal kit and left and right bands from 6x6 parts. Do I need 2 right bands at $85 per and 2 left bands for the same or just 1 right and 1 left. Also does the master t20 seal / clip kit have everything I need for a complete rebuild. The planetary gears I'm told are good but I have a broken band. I would like the trans shop to redo everything needed while they have it apart. They said some of the seals have metal shavings I figured we would replace them all but I'm not shure if it all comes in the kit. I was told to try to order everything at once because shipping costs with them were high. Any help is appreciated the trans shop I'm dealing with does automotive transmissions but we're willing to try this out, so I'm trying to help with what I can. Mike thank you for the t20 removal and repair instructions, I printed them out and gave it to the shop. Here goes nothing, new trans, new motor, new chains

These are not difficult to rebuild. I have done it myself many times. There is a set of videos that show how step by step on the web site. As for the bands, you need four of them. Two and two. If I were you I would see if anyone has a good used band and have them all relined. It will cost half of what new bands cost and they are like new when you get them back. All of mine have relined bands and they work great. These transmissions have a few variations so I usually wait to order parts until I have them apart.

Thanks for the quick feedback, I don't mind ordering the bands I just didn't want to spend $340 when because of lack of knowledge I should have spent $170. I meet with the trans shop 8:30 tomorrow morning they have it apart on the bench.

The master seal kit includes the paper gaskets for the case, the thrust washers, seals, c-clips and all the o-rings. It does include the two main outer seals but not the main outer bearings. You would have to order the bearings separately. For the bands, I would take smudvapor's advice and not buy them new. Post a wanted ad like he mentioned here in the classified section for the band of yours that is broken. Then, when you get that one, send it off with your good three and have them relined.

Well both of you said the same thing, so I'll take that advice. Where do you have them reconditioned

Check out this thread: http://www.6x6world.com/forums/trans...-relining.html and this one http://www.6x6world.com/forums/trans...ama-bands.html

I used transmission crafters in GA for my last set: transmissioncrafters.com – torque converters, transmission bands, transmission parts and rebuilt transmissions

Edit: For the bearings, you can't buy those off-the-shelf. You only have a couple of choices with those because they are custom ground. You can either get them from Max (I'm not sure if Mudd-Ox or Mxi is selling them), you can get them from a parts place like Route 6x6 or you can get them from member whipper-ag. I would PM whipper and see if he is selling any.

I have only used Transmission Crafters. They do great work. All of my transmissions have bands relined by them. The price is great and the turn around is quick.

Met with trans shop and the price on the end of the band is broke. The other ones look elongated and they showed me one was cracked I told them about resurfacing the bands and they were more worried about the end pieces. Also the two gears on either end that go into the planitaries had a slight bit of wear on them. And last the shifter valve was cracked. I know I'm not using the right words but I'm shure you guys that have done this before probably know what I'm talking about. With all this being said and also needing the machine back to work asap, PLEASE GIVE ADVISE.

Post a wanted add on here and ask if anyone has some parts before you spend big money on new stuff.

If you need it quick, your best bet is to just buy new parts. If you can take a few days, post a wanted ad in the classified section for used bands and then send them off and have them relined. You can also see if anyone has a used plunger and gears. If you need to know what to call the parts, look in the how-to section at the T20 rebuild article or in the manuals section at the T20 manual.

Edit: I missed smudvapors post before I replied and basically am saying the same thing.

I'd like to get it quick but 6x6 doesn't have parts in yet because of there merger and Richards says there not answering the phone till Jan 2 they do say go to web page and order but I don't know exactly what I need. I.e.: oversize bands, new style bands, oil seal input and output shaft seals??? Pretty difficult when there's not a lot of places that supply or work on this type of equipment, or maybe I'm just new at this and don't know the right people. We own a specialty company and now I realize what it's like dealing with specialty equipment.
