  • 3.3 Transplant

Got the job done yesterday and out for a short test ride out with the broken in with the new 3.3,for our purposes this is the ticket for a transmission, forever I have had to run the avenger in low range with tracks on unless on a smooth flat surface and any maneuvering at all was low range, not anymore its great low range is killer low just what I need from time to time and I can actually drive it 95% of the time in high range what a difference its all good the machine feels like a total different unit almost reminds me of my time spent with the Admiral Trans, for a working 8 wheeler that sees loads/plowing/hauling this transmission is King to me making me rethink my track situation it handles the big rubber boots so much better its hard to believe what i lived with for 13 years so glad the other trans packed it in its my Avenger reborn.NCT

can't beat that when the test ride comes and the improvement is a few notches up !! i had the same experience when tying in all the grousers on my max 2 shackle tracks with belting on both sides of each track. way smoother and much quieter. have fun.....johnboy

Great to hear, I think you're past the point of missing that couple mph.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
        Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Now there would be a real world comparison.
But, you can't drive in the other guys tracks.

Not sure whatcha mean Jim,I just thrive on unbroken bush trails got a winch that,s all I need to get me out of places you shouldn't go got to tell ya the more I drive this 3.3 the more I like it it plays with them Argo rubber tracks and this engine is down on power next upgrade fresh engine and forged axles I was ready to pull the trigger on grouser bar tracks now Iam not sure the increased width would not suit my driving style lots of tight areas in the bush and the cast axles put a total of 4 inches in width more than I have now.Like I say the machine handles the power rob so much better now that going to a tougher drive line may be better money spent as these tracks are awfully good in the powder and deep snow some of the conditions I encounter include deep water/snow/slush/mud filled trails unbroken snow measured in feet and sometimes the tracks have to flex side to side alot wider tracks I fear would be prone to derail,as it stands now I stop from time to time and have a look out to see how much deflection is going on and ease my way thru the nasty,s,Plott can verify as he got to experience some backwoods unbroken virgin trails.NCT

yes it was an eye opener as to what an argo is capable of.have done a ton of bushwhacking at the hunt camp on sleds, but never before (to that extent) in my argo.looking forward to the next run.

That's great the trans is paying for itself, I'd like too see you run the season as is just too see if you loose an axle, but hopefully close to home if so. Most of the older axle issues were the flange and most of that caused by track extensions, I've seen a couple hd axles twist the centers apart but that was with Admirals and tracks on hard surface.

What I was referring to was the Admiral and Standard low trans nearly identical machines in side by side (literally) comparison in what you are facing. Granted plot is not as experienced or familiar with the trails, but it should show the trans. differences in the tight bushwacking area you regularly run.

If you hadn't cleaned it when accessible I'd let it be, the old farmer's adage is of "if it's greasy it can't seize" works good also.

Keep in mind Jim Iam using H.D.I axles currently, and yes you are correct the original axles snapped flanges off like Chiclets so far Iam in my second season on these axles and have proved out but I have seen the H.D.i,s around here snapping axles at the bearing,I will be using these H.D.I axles to finish out the season change over in the spring.Next Argo adventure for plott and i we will see certainly it was equal ground last time for sure and he gained some valuable experience and didn't back down from anything we came up against wisely sat back and watched the maneuvering technique in the very technical areas then motored on thru I got a couple other areas that the difficulty level is going to ramp up significantly it will be a blast, whole bunch easier to extract a buried machine with another than winching out so we will push the boundary's of sanity.LOL NCT P.S Anyone else within a reasonable distance is welcome to join in the Mayhem.

sorry to be random but i dont need to start a ew thread for just this question. how much would it cost to do all axles in an argo to upgrade to the hdi beraings and flanges. without the new inner bearing with it?
