The Dimond looks ok ,it shifts fine and if i hold shift rod up it reverses ok, but if i put it in reverse and sit and watch, it vebrates to netural. Thinking it is linkage problem. Tring to rule out transmission problems
Cheapinri, you never know what a forum user's mechanical abilities are, so please don't be offended by my question: Toys4me asked about the shift pin. You responded with regard to the diamond. I assume you know to pull the diamond assembly out of the transmission to get to the pin underneath it....internal to the transmission?
Pull the diamond shifter up out of the case and shift the collar inside to the outboard position with a screwdriver. If it jumps back into neutral under power the internal reverse teeth in the ring gear drum are probably chewed out. http://www.6x6world.com/forums/trans...ear-drums.html This post has some pics of drums that wouldnt stay in reverse.
Dirt dobby i am a simple junk yard mechanic , first t20 transmission i have had so i didn't know about pin .not offended in the least thank you for helping.
Guessing if i disconnect shift linkage and put Dimond into reverse with engine running and it stays then problem is with linkage and i have to lighten or support somehow. If it moves then pull Dimond and move something inside transmission have to read how to on here to see what. If it does move again then reverse gear is toast
Pulling the diamond shifter is no big deal at all. I don't know specifically about your machine, but there usually is a metal strap that bolts to the case and has a tab bent out and is right above the diamond. This tab keeps it from working its way out of the housing. Get this metal strap unbolted and out of the way and you should be able to wiggle the whole diamond assembly out of the transmission. Clean around it good before you pull it out to keep crud from falling into the transmission. When it pulls out, you will see a pin on the bottom of the shifter, about 1/4 inch in diameter or so. This pin pushes the shift collar into F, N or R position. If the pin is worn, it could keep the shift collar from properly seating into reverse and also keep it from catching the detent, which helps hold it in gear. Disconnecting the linkage could tell you something, but i may not tell you the whole story.
