Ok guys I'm back for more guidance. I'm getting ready to put the new 18 hp Vanguard into my MaxII to replace the tired 16hp it came with. Either I am using the wrong search terms on here, YouTube and Google or looking in the wrong place for info on my clutch. I'm I correct it's a Comet 780? I know I'm asking a lot but since I don't know exactly what this clutch is supposed to look like inside, based on the photos attached does anyone see any blaring problems I should address? I cleaned the clutch and the cover with brake cleaner but that is all I've done to this point. I read these clutches are supposed to be lubricated with dry graphite lube? Are the rusty rollers something I should address? Any and all help appreciated.

I 've been reading about the similarities (and design differences) of the various brands(Comet,Yamaha,Polaris, etc) a while ago,and found this old tuning manual helpful-check pages 31-32 regarding Coment-maybe it'll be of help....

It is indeed a Comet 780 and based on the pictures, it doesn't look all that bad at all. It's darn clean compared to a lot of 780s I've taken apart. it looks like the springs are all in good shape (not broken, which isn't uncommon) and the cover certainly doesn't look that bad. Sure, the rollers have worn it a bit, but that's typical. Based on the wear pattern on the cover, it looks like you're getting full engagement of the clutch too. If there isn't a lot of physical slop in the roller bushings, I'd hose her down with brake cleaner once, douse her up with graphite and run it.sigpic
