I have a t-20 in my 6x6. It wasn't running when I got it so it's been a discovery process as I go. I got it running but it would only engage on the right side. The drive gear on the left side spun freely. before I got 5 feet the output shaft started sliding in and out and the 6x6 quit moving. I removed the trans and have it on the bench. The output shaft slides out about 10 inches and will go almost all the way back in without force. I'm assuming some sort of a retainer(s) came off. Anyone have any experience with such a problem? Thank you for any input.

Well, I tore it down and found the clip inside. Someone had been in there before because they tried to use 2 clips to replace the one they lost. I went ahead and disassembled it some more and found a few pieces of the bands inside. No damage to any of the gears or polished surfaces. Are there 2 clips on the output shaft? One on the end and one above the sun gear? What are these clips called? Also, When I order the new bands what do they call the upper and lower bands on each side? When I looked them up they just listed one for left and one for the right. Is there a rebuild kit that would include the bands? Thank you for any help.

The clips are commonly referred to as "C" clips. Here's a link to a kit that contains gaskets, seals, C clips and thrust washers. 13-13-410-001 SEAL & GASKET KIT W/ THRUST WASHERS - T20
Your T-20 may or may not have had the thrust washers. If not, there is another kit on the same website without the washers and it will save you a few bucks.
As far as the bands, I've read on here that a place called Transmission Crafters will reline the bands which is a whole lot cheaper than buying new ones.
