Vent Plug?

I just did the first fluid change in my Max IV T20 transmission.
I got this used a couple weeks ago.

The vent hole in the plug looked to have some copper wire jammed in it.
Blowing through it was tough, but not completely blocked.

I drilled it out to the original dia of the vent hole.

Now I'm having second thoughts, is this some sort of filter that I removed?

I would appreciate some information!
