I tore down a T-20 today. What a mess, It was filled with water and I'm not sure what else. Man did it stink! One of the drums was worn down about 1/4"
that explains why the O-rings on the plungers were coming all the way out of the case. All the bands were gone. That must be all the grit that was inside the case. All the internal teeth that engage with the shift collar are gone also. The only thing that seems to be OK is the main shaft and the planetary gears. You may be able to smell it just looking at the pics'

    ??????

I didn't know clay was a lubricant? What a mess.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Whipper. Was that the one you smoked at Ledges this year?

This winter I am going to tear mine down too. I'm sure I'll find a few surprises in there also.

Automatic transmission band and clutch lining is attached to the steel with a water soluble glue. If a trans takes on water, and then is driven till hot, the steam will take the lining off. If you ever sink your car, turn off the engine immediately, tow it out, and drain the water and oil while it's still seperated and sitting in the pan.

Is that the T-20 from the Tuscon Max? I hope mine doesn't turn into that anytime soon.

Is anything salvageable? What did this tranny come out of? Something at the bottom of a lake?
It's all just nuts and bolts.

No, This was the T-20 that came out of the red Max IV that I bought just for the tranny.

I did get a chevelle wet decades ago.. fast rising water in a resedential.. Nothing like the people you see on CNN making a float trip out of it, though

NOW MATT, I would suggest you might have a sinking of the titanic story, yourself but will not push the issue.

                      Okay, I started it...
It was last October the Sunday after the Humphery New York Holloween ride. John Schawb, John Hoath, Al, Wendy and I decided to go for a nice creek ride. At that time there was no upper body on the Mudd-Ox. Lets just say I am glad John Schwab did not have his video camra and the Mudd-Ox has been fully tested.

On the plus side it did float and float level, I heard We'll call it all in the name of thorough testing. That's one thing the Mudd Ox is for sure. Matt drove the prototypes hard, no babying.

And it comes with Matt's beadlock wheels, and axles by Whipper
