  • Baker hill tear down

Ok, I have searched and found some info bout tearing this down.
My question is with bearing unclipped it won’t come off..
When I read the whole shaft comes out does that mean
It comes off with clutch and drive attached? Don’t
Want to start pounding before I know!
    Thanks for any help!

Have only done mine once about a year ago but there is a split diagram in the Attex manual section on the site that breaks down the assembly. If i remember right, the clutch and discs come out together on the shaft. If you remove the four bolts in the casing cover on that side and pry out it should come out as an assembly and then you can disassemble. Pretty sure there is a snap ring behind the cover plate that won't allow you to remove without removing the cover plate bolts.

In pic #2, take a flathead and pry around the casing where you removed those 6 or 8 bolts. Keep prying around casing till it comes loose. My 7000 is a little different. Can't remember if it is split shaft or 1 shaft. I took out the clutch side still assembled on shaft but you need to get that casing cover loose

I don't think you are far enough to worry about casings.
I would first use two heal bars and remove the gears, look to see as there should be another snap ring at disc? Remove discs, more snaprings? Then split case.

The two inner bearing races are pressed onto the shaft, and I think there's a spacer in between them. I take the inner disc, sun gear and races/spacer off at one time by supporting the transmission by the disc and driving the shaft down and out of the disc with a brass punch. 3/4" square tubing works great to support it if you hold the ends up on jackstands, or anything else that will hold them evenly, and hang the transmission by the disc. Always have a wooden block or something else soft below the transmission to avoid damage when it drops out.

Don, on this tranny is it a solid shaft or 2, separate?
                    Thanks!

1 full length shaft, unless its broken. 5000 series often broke.

I'm no expert on the 5000 and 7000; I only use the 6000 that doesn't have reverse. I think Jim's right: the shaft runs end to end, but the clutch is on a sleeve that slides over the shaft in order to enable a reverse gear. And yes, the 5000 is delicate and often breaks the main shaft near the outer bearings.

I do believe the bearings or races on the shaft is what I gotta get off.
Cause the great on inner disk won’t pass over them!
#68 and 69.i did notice a punch hole in them. Thanks for info guys!!!

Well I got that tranny apart!! Geesh, am I glad I took the advice
To tear it down. Mostly all bearings wear locked up. I guess I just need to press
The big bearings out so I can get some numbers so I can just buy every thing at once.
Thanks for all the help !
