After years of sitting, I'm finishing the Max 4 refurb. Yesterday we started the engine for and got the axles spinning for the first time. This is on sawhorses with no wheels on it. The driven clutch never opened up so this morning I took it apart and cleaned it up so it now works smoothly.
There are two things I'm not too sure about. First, the belt is not slipping on the drive clutch. When I squeeze the belt between the two pulleys, I get about 1 1/2" total. That is, the two sides of the belt come 1 1/2" closer together. The belt does not touch on either side of the drive pulley, but it still turns when the engine does. Will the extra friction of wheels on the ground take care of that or do I need a bit bigger belt?
The other issue is my drive clutch only opens about 1/2 way when I rev the engine. Again, will some friction require additional torque and cause the driven to open the rest of the way?
Thanks for the help.
