my t-20 for the racer doesn't have a vent plug, just standard 1/2 pipe plugs top and bottom. i know the easy solution is to call rec and get one, but i hate to do things the easy way. i remember seeing on here somewhere were someone had drilled and tapped a plug and run a vent line up to a breather. i was wondering if there was any reason for doing that or just cause it looked cool. i can't remember who's machine it was on. also, how hot does a t-20 get?

Well, you don't want debris and water to get into the tranny, so just drilling a hole is obviously out. I would think it would be rather difficult to plug a hole the way Rec does, without the strands vibrating back out. So the breather would be functional. Looking cool doesn't hurt either. After putting more than a few hours riding in the Putnam Pit I haven't had my tranny get more than warm, but most of my trails are water, your not touching bottom more than intermittently, and rarely at that, so the bands really aren't being slipped much at all. The more your running straights, the cooler it will stay, the more sweeping turns where your slipping bands, the more heat you'll build up. How much? i just found the vented plug. it was in the pile of hardware i sorted out of the tub on initial teardown. someone must have droped it in there once, couldn't find it and just threw in a pipe plug.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
