Type F is a type of automatic transmission fluid. Its a little thicker then the normal Dexron 3 that GM and others use. Type F was introduced by Ford in 1967 for their automatics. Also used by Toyota.
That is interesting as I was kinda at the same point you are when I rebuilt my trannys. The manual says straight 30 wt, but somewhere I read to use the ATF. I ended up going with the ATF, and my trannys do run hot. I had 1 up to 300 degrees after some heavy snow plowing this year. I have new bands, and they are adjusted correct. No drag or excess travel, I guess I just beat them too hard.
