Hey guys how long would it take for gear oil to ruin the bands in a T-20? I found gear oil in my max2. I think they mixed it with the trans fluid because it was very thin for straight gear oil. It has been sitting for many years with no engine got it running the other day steers and operates very well. How can you tell if the bands are bad and how many are there?

I personally think that it is not gear oil. Just change it and add the additive run it several hours and change it again.

My new machine looked and smelled as you described the first time I changed the oil!

It's up to you whether or not you want to take the chance. If it handles that well, you may just want to do what fullerav said and change the fluid out and keep an eye on it. Problem is, it only takes a short time to ruin the drums once the lining comes off the bands, and the drums are the expensive part. There's four bands and four drums.

        Good luck
