I was planning on filming the process of switching out the red spring as well as removing the governor on a Briggs 16 hp and putting in a rev limiter kit.
I'll post the video here in a week or two.Banned

the actual change of the spring shouldn't take long, but in a max 4 it may take a while to get to it. you will have to remove the driven clutch from the trans to change out the spring. i don't think you can remove the clutch with the trans in the machine?? if not you will have to remove the engine, then the trany, then the clutch. a couple hoursdepends how fast you are with the wrenches.

Changing the spring in my Max IV took about 2 weeks and a few hundred dollars.
The rear sprockets were gone so they all needed replaced. It is a little trickey to get the preload on the spring and get everything pushed back together. I think someone showed a picture of a home made jig to ease the installation process. Make sure you mark the slots the original spring is in and add some other markings on all the movable pieces to get it back togehter the same way it comes apart.
The pieces tend to launch themselves to the other side of the shop.
