  • T-20 Pops out of gear

I've looked through a bunch of these articles, I figured this would be a common problem but I cant find anything. I can't keep the T-20 on my Attex Chief in gear. I have tried tightening up the linkage. Is there another adjustment or is it wore out and need rebuilt? Would a rebuild fix this?

If the linkage isn't binding up or keeping the diamond shifter from going all the way into gear, another common problem is a broken detent spring. If you disconnect the diamond shifter on the side that's popping out and shift it by hand, you should be able to feel it snap into forward, neutral, and reverse. If it moves without snapping into the three positions, you've most likely got a broken detent and the transmission has to come apart. Good luck.

Yea, I was afraid of that, there doesnt seem to be any "locking" on one of thoes diamonds. Looks like I'm gonna learn what's inside a t-20!

Pull your diamond shifters and check the pins on the bottom. I have one that wont stay in gear with the shifter but stays in when I pulled the shifter and moved it with a flat screw driver.

I'll try that too, thanks for the help. Do they make a rebuild kit for the T-20 with all the seals and bearings (and detent springs... ugh)?
