  • Need help with t20

Hi i have a 400 chief and of course with my luck the seals leak like crazy so i keep it full with gear oil and check it constantly, but i noticed that i have to move the sticks along ways for it to go compared to the videos ive seen where they move like 5 inches, what could the problem be?

Get the gear oil out. It's bad for the bands. Use ATF Dexron III.

I think there's something on hear about adjusting the T-20.

But get the gear oil out!!!

Here is something on adjusting them.

I wish I could find a t-20 machine so I could help with some of these questions with more knowledge. Oh yea, and the fact that there indestructible trannys.

If the gear oil's been in the tramsmission very long, it may have ruined the bands. The lining tends to fall off them once they're exposed to gear oil for a while.

yup the gear oil has probably already baked the bands ,you maybe too late , but to snug up the band , on the front side of the trani you'll see the two vertical bars on the t20 that the pushrods that the handlebars are fastened to ,you need to turn the boltheads that you see at the bottom inside the vertical bars clockwise 1 full turn for each inch play you want to remove (that is approximate) if you need to turn them more than about 3 or 4 full turns then i would guess that your bands are toast
note; this is not the factory method for adjusting the trani , but it will get you thru in a pinch

proper adjustment depends on the age of your T20 the intructions that are in larry's post are the right ones but they are not readable to be of use ,ill see if he will send me a copy so that i can format it in something else so that it stays under the 1 Mb that this site alows and still be printable/readable
