  • Where to Buy a Custom Length Drive Belt???

    I did some modifications to my Max IV, now I need a longer drive belt.

    Does anyone know where I can order a longer than standard drive belt??? The width is 1-3/16 in. The original length was 44-1/2 in. I am going to need one 46-1/2 in.

    Do they make such a thing, and if so, where can I order/buy one???

    Thanks.

    Your local auto parts store should be able to get you the length you need. You may have to compromise an inch one way or the other but they should be able to get you close. I ran into the same thing on my wife's max and ended up getting a belt from NAPA.

      We have a belt chart in here somewhere from CentralSnowmobile.com. You can use it to find a part number. I'd post the link but I'm still finding my way around on the new site.

        Here's the link. Sorry, the brochure, hot-to, and articles sections are still under construction but you can still access all of the old stuff at the bottom of the forums page

          Thanks for the help, as usual.

          I went to my local NAPA . . . on this point, they were less than helpful. Normally, I deal with a different person. The one I dealt with on this day was one of those "know-it-all" kind of people who doesn't know much of anything.

          But, long story short . . . they said that they could not get any of this type of belt in the 1-3/16 width that is longer than 44-9/16, which is basically what I have. It was the way they handled it that made me less than happy. But, anyhow . . .

          If I go to 1-1/4 width, I would have a lot more flexibility. But, it is my understanding that the clutch I have from Max was designed for 1-3/16 width. Does anyone know if you can go to the 1-1/4 width on the standard clutched that would be on a 2000 Max IV with a 25 HP Kohler??? If I could go to the 1-1/4 width . . . that would help me get the 46-1/2 length that I need. But, then I would need a longer size, anyhow, because it would probably not go into the pulley on the secondary cluth the same as the 1-3/16 width belt did.

          Thanks for any help you can provide.

            Rolling;

            If i'm correct (and if I'm not, somebody help me out here) the wider belt shouldn't make that much of a difference. It won't drop as low in your clutch, thus reducing low end torque, and at the same time might reduce your "Top-END" speeds. I don't really think it will be very noticeable, and you should be OK.
            It's all just nuts and bolts.

              Gates 6043 is 1-3/16" x 46-1/4". Usually available from RockAuto.com if can't find it locally. NAPA sometimes has them under same # or one ending the same.

                  Most snowmobile sites have pretty good belt selections. I looked in Dennis Kirk and they only show a 46"x1 3/16 Good luck
