  • Spring and Roller options for the 780 Clutch

I have a chart (which I have been trying to upload, but to no avail) which outlines various spring and roller combinations for the 780 drive clutch. The chart allows you to mix-and-match different spring and roller combinations which correspond to various numbers, which I believe are RPM engagement figures. For instance, a 68 gram Blue Roller, coupled with a 11.3 in Blue Spring yeilds 1950, which, as I said, I believe to be the RPM engagement of the clutch. After all of that, my fist question is simple: what is the most optimal RPM engagement for a Max IV running a B&S 16 HP? Second question is the same, but the engine is a 30 HP Bandolero. In short, I need a mini clutch tuning clinic. Anyone?

UPDATE: I found a another good source for Salsbury / Comet springs and rollers. Quality Drive Soloutions (626) 293-5770. Speak with Mike or Roy. They have all the spring and roller combinations that you can imagine. Al Hodge at Performance V-Twins [nice guy] (Performance V-Twins) recommended them. I spoke with them extensively over the phone. The spring and roller set-up of choice for the 16 HP Vanguard is 98 Gram Blue Rollers and Purple Springs. The recommended set-up for the Bandolero is 71 Gram Blue Rollers with Blue Springs. I placed my order today. I'll post again when I receive the parts and test them. Uncle Vin

any of you know what is inside our clutches ?

I can see the blue/indigo springs and the rollers have the conical weight (could be the blue/gold)

but as per the chart, it doesn't make sense. is blue/indigo the new purple ?

because blue springs with blue/gold rollers (best case) would make it a 1500rpm clutch (WTF is this on a 16hp engine making 2hp @ 1500rpm just off idle)

            it's a 2008 Max IV 500T previously motivated by a 16hp engine.
