Ok, tore down all three t20's i have. I printed out the 'how to' from this site. I noticed that the carrier plate was backwards on two of them. The machined teeth side should be toward the shift collar right? I also noticed that the fiber washers were on the planet gear drum side and not the carrier plate side as shown on in the 'how to guide'. I left them on the drum side because it looked liked it aligned the gears better to me and all three t20 were like that. Anyone see a problem with leaving them on the drum side?

I rebuilt many T-20s and I noticed that the location of the fiber washers was usually different in every one. Some of the very early T-20s didn't have any fiber washers at all. Just keep that in mind, and if you believe that nobody ever messed with the internals of the transmission before you, just put the fiber washers back the way you found them and you'll be fine."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

I have to agree with JP. It's my suspicion that the washers were added to cut down on the noise and have no other purpose in the transmission. When they started to cut the machine workmanship of the T20 (sorry, but I've had old ones apart and they're a better piece of work) skid-steer added the washers to keep the noise down. I'd leave them in, but which side of the gear doesn't seem to matter. Just my 2 cents.Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.
