  • T20 mystery sludge

    Hi
as i mentioned i have stripped the trans to locate source of silver colouring

Back ground is that i have not owned the t20 very long so i have no history
Stripped to asses drums bands and general condition

    Any way
First question is the additive that Max recommends the GM fluid in a small bottle
Does the GM fluid look grey in colour and does it change the transmission oil colour

Has any one found the light grey and very slightly red sludge sitting in the bottom of case when u have stripped to repair the T20

    thanks tomo

The bands are red in colour so no gear oil
    Drums not marked at all
Linnings on the bands are good

There always seems to be a certain amount of goop in the bottom of the case when you take the T20 apart. Most of the time it's silvery and I'm assuming that's the steel from the center plate & bearings, and aluminum from the cases. If there's a lot of brown/red, I'd check the bronze bushings pressed into the case halves very carefully. If it looks like this, run away.[IMG][/IMG]
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

      Don

      HI
      Thanks for the advice
The sludge sounds similar to auto tranmission pan debris
The only difference is that auto trans have o rings and clutch material in the sludge also . Although the sludge is same consistancy the colour in auto is slightly more black in colour due to o rings etc

Yes the bronze bushes show no signs of wear and tare

Does the GM fluid additive change the colour at all ??

      cheers
      tomo

      Ps
      T20 attex discs
Hydraulic 2 x twin piston front calipers from a yamaha Radian motorcycle fit . Pad size is a perfect match to attex
Small mod to original mount .Needs to be made taller to allow for the adapter plate from the caliper mount
adapter plate with spacers for the caliper mount
This will go together once the trans is reassembled
