for the first time i just re-built my t-20 in my max IV. must say, as a newbie, it looked harder than it was as so many of you have posted. having a background in maintenance and auto mechanics, it really was a breeze. now to my question for all you pros out there...... i read on a thread that you can safely machine .030 off of a drum to remove scoring. i am a machinist and luckily have unlimited access to my machine shop. after turning my ring gear drum down .025, and re-installed in my tranny, i find that my lateral has more travel than the other side. ran the machine for a little breakin, then re-adjusted both sides. the side that has the drum that i turned down seems to have more travel in the lateral still. can someone give me some idea as to how long/hours a new set of bands will last before they will need to be replaced. i drive extremely slow and don't push this machine at all. not like some of the videos you guys have posted here. thanks for all answers

i think .030" might have been too much. i took .010 off a set last year, but haven't had a chance too try them yet. i did some math on it and figured that the adjuster bolt would have to be run in about 2 turns tighter to make up for the 10 thousandths off the drum. if my math is correct, you will need to be 6 turns tighter and will probably be really close to out of adjustmentA well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
