  • Sierra Trail Boss transmission fluid

    i have just recently purchased my first 6x6 it is a 1970 seirra trail boss my question is what kind of transmission fluid do i use in it and how much. just got the motor running and drove it back and forth tried turning but just doesnt seem like it turns very well but maybe its mee ive never drove one nor have i ever seen one in person tii li just bought this for 450.00 i have the throttle hooked up to the right side lever wich drives the right.if i push one side forward on the controll shouldnt that side turneither forward or reverse depnding on wich way the controll is pushed or pulled,

    Congratulations on your Trail Boss. I'm not going to be any help on the fluid but I thought I would give your thread a bump so others will hopefully see it. For turning, in most skid steers it turns easier when you are moving forward a little.

        I cant believe nobody here knows????

        I have no idea because I have never owned a trail boss but I will email a guy right now and ask him. I will post back.

            Hey mystery52001,
            He stated "yes the trail bosses take reg (old red style) atf transmission fluid."

            I was late on the adjustment part. I will email or call him later.

                The owner's manual calls for 1 1/2 pint of straight 30w oil. I have run both 30w and atf and i believe the 30w works better. But if you are running in winter, it's a bear to steer until the oil thins out some. That's wher I would suggest the atf.
                It's all just nuts and bolts.
