  • Baker-Hill 7000 tight

Hey Folks; I have a question about my B-H 7000 and that is this trans. even though not under power yet, I thought I should be able to spin this thing pretty freely in neutral, but it seems tight in forward and reverse also! I don't want to put power to this thing and launch it's inards! Thanks Again Brian!

How tight is tight? Will it budge at all in either gear? I would guess that the discs are a bit rusty if they've sat for any length of time, and if the calipers are adjusted up tight, or stuck from floating (they move side to side a little bit as you engage reverse/forward) it will move quite tight. Clean the disks off well, try to get it moving if it moves at all, check to make sure that your calipers are moving from side to side, and throw some power to it!

Larry and Don will likely be able to shed more light on things, as well.

I have heard of the pucks swelling over long perionds of time with no use. That would tighten up the pucks. If the pucks are to tight on both sides then it would explain what you saying. If that is not it then I would guess if it does it in both directions and neutral, the bearings in the main shaft area are rusty/crusty. Best case is the pucks!.......When I was just proof reading I got to thinking, when in neutral, the rotors dont spin so it must be the main shaft bearings as you stated it does it in neutral too. Unless you are wanting to take it apart. I would check the fluid in it and see what it looks like. Maybe it got real think and gooey. Maybe flush it out with some kerosene. Try working the trans by hand back and forth. It may clear up?

Post your results, I am curious!
