    What's the cost of the RI ground bearing versus you guy's sourced oversize bearings? I worked at a tool & cutter shop, employer is still a friend, so abrasive machining service is local to me. Their shop rate isn't cheap, but doing a batch at once might be practical.. this isn't exactly splitting 10th's of thousandths accuracy here, so it might be reasonably priced. Also what's the quality of the RI bearing compared to what you could buy and have ground..

      Roger, I don't know the price offhand, but I believe that Recreatives uses a cut down Peer bearing in the T-20. I'll see if I can get a part number for you sometime.

        I came across this old thread by accident, but thought I'd update it. The berairngs from RI are around $45 each. I just bought a pair of koyo's for $13 each and took them to a buddy's machine shop. His grinder is small, with a narrow wheel and manual operation. Remember I'm not a machinist....It took me 30+ minutes per bearing to grind them and another 5-10 to clean them afterwards. I came to the conclusion that the RI bearings aren't so overpriced after all.

          There's a lesson to be learned. I think most of us like to "do it ourselves" and save some time and money. But companies like Recreative Industries need to make money to stay in business. Paying a few extra bucks for a specialized part helps keep these companies around. I for one will be visiting RI alot these next few months as my mid 70's Max II rises from the ashes to live again.

            Yea you would hate to see RI loose money. But for $9495 for bottom end Max II and $22430 for a completely loaded one you would think they are doing fine. Just saying. lol

            Was curious so I quoted MaxIV and Buffalo base and loaded. Loaded includes everything, tracks,plow,camo etc.....

            MaxIV=$10995/$25180
            Buffalo= $17195/$30290

              SERIOUSLY!? FOR REAL!!!??? Well that puts me OUT of the market for a new max of any kind. I just cant see where there is that much money going INTO a max, compared to the more modern styling and advancements of an ARGO. I just don't see the comparison. And beyond that Louisiana recently made it legal to upgrade some of the side-by-sides with turn signals, street tires and such and you can license AND drive them on the highway just like a car! Which means I could drive them in the National Forest and get around the restrictions which have ALWAYS made any of the amphibs I ever owned ILLEGAL TO DRIVE THERE. It's not a hard decision when you compare the price! I could be driving a really really nice Rhino or Ranger from my house to the NF land and all over it and nobody could say a thing about it...all for the base range of a buffalo truck or -less- WOW! $17195 That's $195 more than I paid for the Chevy truck I drive!

                You pretty much have to be a die hard aatver to buy one new. I'd do it if I had the money. I mean over a rhino. If you go to maxatvs.com you can build a max with any option available.
