  • Difference in ATF fluids

What is the main difference in different ATF fluids?
MY 1998 Max Says "dexron II" on the trany
Other member posted that they use Type F
I went from ATF 4 to a high millage GTX Dexron II with additive and it ****s worse.
    Any suggestions?

I've always been told Dexron/Mercon type III. I've never had any problems.

I've never used the additive that others suggest but I guess I should consider it.

i use mercon 4 semi synthetic and never had any overheating issues or chatter or premature oil break down..
i stand by it..from dextron 2 to 3 is just a better fluid better additives for newer trans..from dextron 3 to 4
is just a better refined oil and better addtitives for newer trans, anti foaming agents ect..when you get
into synthetics its way better refined oil than earlier mentioned oils..in the case of these tranmissions
heat is a factor so using a better oil is always the right thing to do...TRY SEMI SYNTHETIC YOU WONT REGRET IT
....just remember their is only one true synthetic oil and that is mobil one..it is truely manmade oil

The latest and greatest atf isn't always better. One is made to slip the converter lockup plate intentionally.. forgot which one it was.
