  • T-20 supported mainshaft upgrade.. Is it worth it??

    Hi all,
I'm getting ready to rebuild one of my T-20 transmissions. I was wondering if it was worth the $175 plus my old parts to do the supported mainshaft upgrade. Do the mainshafts break very often, or does the trans really need to be abused for this to happen? If I do the rebuild job with this upgrade, I'm looking at around $500 total for parts. Ouch!

I'm not sure it would be worth the extra money unless you're going to be abusing the machine more than most of us. I've only broken one input shaft and it was from extreme use (and stupidity). There's a good number of high-torque, high-horsepower engines out there hooked up to the newer style T20 without a problem.

Thanks, Don. That's pretty much what I figured, but I didn't want to go through the rebuild job without doing it and then regret it later.
