I recently ordered some new bands for a T-20 that I,m going to rebuild. In the package that Recreatives sent me there were two bands marked left and two bands marked right. If your T-20 has no bands to start with , and you are going to install the bands that are missing,, how do you determine how the bands are replaced. Do you install two lefts on one half of the transmission housing ,and two rights on the other transmission housing? What if you buy relined bands are they also marked left and right? Or do you just line them up around the drums to see if they fit in the right place?

lay the case half on the bench with the sprocket down, and the plunger holes facing away from you. you will see that one of the plunger holes is lower in the case (based on the angle you are looking at it from). run one band from the band anchor spiraling up to the lower of the 2 plunger holes. then run the other band from the higher plunger hole spiraling up to the top of the band anchor pin.
hope that makes sense... if not let me know and i will try to get a picture tomorrow to better explain it
went back out and took a pic. hope this helpsin this case, the first band will go on the bottom of the anchor pin and wind clockwise up to the plunger hole on the left. then the second will go from the plunger on the right and wind clockwise up to the top of the band anchor pin. (don't forget the seperator that goes between the bands on the anchor pin)

That makes sense to me. The easiest way that I,ve found is to install the upper and lower drums inside one transmission case half at the same time, and then attach one band on the lower drum clock wise first. I attach one end to the achor pin at the bottom ,and then attach the other end to the lower plunger. I repeated this same process to the upper drum. Will this way work out the same as what you explained? I can see that one band has more wrap on one side when compared to the other band when layed on top of each other, and one band is marked left and the other band marked right. What I don,t understand though, is which band to choose for the lower plunger out of two?Last edited by mudbug3; 10-15-2010, 01:18 AM.

I called Recreatives and talked to Jay the parts man on the phone and he explained to me a very easy way to know which band is right and which band is left. Lay each band on a flat table. Next position a band with the top band loop end positioned at 12:00. If the band loop end faces right, this is a right band. If the top band loop end faces left , then this is a left band. The T-20 case that has the clutch and spring on it, is the left side. This side will take the two left bands. The other T-20 case half wtih just the sprocket on the outside of it, will take the two right bands.
