  • Is this a belt or clutch problem?

While in any gear............. if i'm making a turn from a dead stop, i have to give my argo a couple thousand RPM before it actually hooks up and when it goes, it darts off. It's not pretty, and getting my argo back into the garage is eventfull. Is this clutch issues, belt, or trans? I've gotta get this resolved.

It sounds as if the clutch is sticking. The belt and trans only do what it is told by the clutch. Look at the clutches and their position. Sounds more like the drive clutch then the clutch on the transmission. Have seen this before. Stuck drive clutch. Could be a broken spring or a broken spring tang or just plan sticking.

Raise the machine up off the ground and remove the firewall cover and watch the clutch operation, this should get you started in the right direction. Clutch operation should be smooth not jumping all at once.

But, look at the belt anyway, check it for wear and correct belt size. Don't know if someone has put a wrong belt on it. If this behavior just started and it was running good prior then this is probably not the case.

Also check the brakes to ensure that they are not engaged due to improper alignment. Just something else to check.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

I would try adjusting steering habbits. Reason being; Most of these are set up to run with th rpms at a constsnt 1/2- 3/4 throttle. And you feather the sticks/t-bar to steer. You don't throttle like a car. If you sit at idleand move sticks for a turn, THEN raise rpm,s you will get exactly what you are experiencing. Try keeping rpm's up and feathering controls first. If that don't work, I would look at the belt, and make sure your secondary clutch isn't sticking/binding. Just my opinion.
It's all just nuts and bolts.

Thanks for the replies. Just to clairify, I had an 04 bigfoot that did not do this. I could turn at low RPM on that machine.
