  • New belt size?

I have a Swamp Fox and I put on new T20 drive chains today after they seemed to be stretched beyond tighting. Now t20 sets closer to the engine and the belt seems to loose. I lost a lot of speed and power. I thought about putting a new belt on it the current one is 1 1/4 X 54 1/4. I found a 1 3/8 X 52 1/8. I think the length will work but will the width be a problem? My riding buddy said he would just add master links to the new chain to get the belt tight. Not sure about that. What help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
    Jeff

if it isn't already, i would slot the engine mount so that you can slide the engine back and tighten the belt

Thank you but it is already and it is as far back as it can go and still have the engine cover close.

ok, then i would push the engine all the way forward and measure for a new belt. stick with a 1 1/4 belt. a wider belt won't sit all the way down in the engine clutch and you will lose torque on initial take off

              hi,
Add links to the chain or just install the correct length and leave the t20 sitting where it was .
I personal have tried mine and the rear of the t20 housing should line up with the middle axle line . Once this has been done a 48 inch thru 50 inch belt will fit mine . The belt length does depend on the clutches used [780 drive, 770driven ]
If u do not have the clutches as above measure centre of t20 shaft to engine crank , also known as centre to centre measurement .
Mine can be 13.5 inches to 15.0 inches
Engine is a v twin briggs 18 hp and a kohler 23 in the future
