  • independent reverse shift levers

in process of fabricating a twin stick reverse linkage on t20 in my sidewinder, close enough together so i can grab both at once or go one side forward other side reverse allowing me to change direction in deep mud with all 6 wheels instead of 3. anyone have any experience with this setup....pros/cons

It is totally possible to do, and it has been done on a Max II......excellent mod! The only thing is that it might be a little bit difficult to make on a Sidewinder or Hustler. Good luck with it though.

      cables

space is tight thinking of using 4 clutch cables,2 on each side to pull in both directions.this would eliminate stock linkage exposed in back seat and save weight

Not only will this be a cool mod but it will also be practical. Sometimes when you are in the mud you need to steer left or right only to avoid obstacles but that leaves 3 wheels sitting still. With this mod you can still turn while having all 6 tires moving at full speed.

By the way, I want to see a video of some donuts when you're done

            Srg,

Make sure when you do the mod that you add extra retaining brackets to your t-20. There was a guy on route 6 x 6 that did this but his t -20 kept breaking loose in it's mounts. There is a lot more torque associated with everything going in opposite directions. just a heads up.

              thanx didnt think about that

u may have just saved me from hours of agravation down the line as the frame hasnt gone to the powder coaters yet. was planing on beefing up the frame, winch, hitch and plow mounts, new front seat support, relocate battery, sticks and shift levers and now trans mounts

                Srg,

if I remember right he was actually shearing the trans mount bolts. I would add some retaining stuff on top of the trans as well as beefier lower mounts.

Excellent point, Mike......that totally slipped my mind. Also, the Hustler/Sidewinder doesnt have the best setup for the transmission mount. My T-20 in my Hustler BIGFOOT had worked itself loose on the previous owner and elongated the holes on the steel mount on the frame. Just something else to consider.

                    Splitting the T-20

The guy on Route 6x6 is named Harrison. He did many mods to his older Max IV. Including huge removeable floats etc. He had oversized bolt holes taped in his t-20. Still broke bolts! He finally "boxed the frame" under the t-20 and reported that as successful. He has his machine for sale on the classified photo adds and his name and phone number. I have e-mailed him on previous occasions and found him helpful.

I think I saw pictures of a similar rig on the net. The one I came across was a RIM with the beige top and brown lower body on it. The one in the classifieds is a different rig and it looks like a nice machine. Those pontoons are a good idea to help stabalize it in the water too.

I've thought about this with my hustler.... for awhile the left side would not go in reverse so I was able to reverse one side and forward the other because I unhooked the linkage on the bad side and locked it in place.... it's great in the water you can turn around really fast.... on land you can spin around in your own dia. but I dont think you would use it that much maybe more on the water than the land ? anyway if you have one bar that both shifters share I thought if you unhooked one sides linkage and changed the linkage to clevse joints then make a plate on the end of the linkage and a plate on the shift bar that has a spring loaded pin that operates both or pull the cable on the one shift levers pin lets you leave that side where you want it and the other side you can shift.... then shift back with the pin in then lock pin and you have both again i dont think it would pop out of gear mine never showed signs of moving or pulling ...just an Idea...run with it haha

                          ur right

kinda like a winch...u dont use it that often but when u do its worth its wieght in gold! and besides i only ussualy use reverse to back out of my garage, which shouldnt be a problem with only one reverse engaged and stick on farward side relaxed.
